Colombia has a small Muslim community estimated at approximately 0.02 to 0.05 percent of the population, numbering roughly 10,000 to 25,000 adherents. The community is concentrated in Bogotá, Maicao (where the Lebanese-origin community has been established for over a century along the Venezuelan border), Buenaventura (with a notable Afro-Colombian convert community), and Barranquilla. Origins include Levantine migration from Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, more recent Pakistani and Iranian residents, and a growing Colombian convert population. The Mosque Omar Ibn Al-Khattab in Maicao, opened in 1997 with Saudi funding, is the largest mosque in the country and one of the largest in Latin America. The Centro Cultural Islámico Colombo Árabe in Bogotá serves the capital's community. The Centro Islámico de Colombia is the principal national body. There is no state Islamic authority. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for Colombia, consistent with broader Latin American practice.
