The Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) has a small Muslim community estimated at approximately 1 to 2 percent of the population, numbering perhaps 50,000 to 100,000 people. The community is concentrated in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire and is composed primarily of West African migrants (Senegalese, Malian, Guinean, Nigerian Hausa) and a smaller Lebanese Levantine component, with a growing Congolese convert population. The community is predominantly Sunni of the Maliki school with a Tijaniyya Sufi presence reflecting West African origins. The Mosquée Centrale de Brazzaville serves as the principal congregational center. The Communauté Islamique du Congo (COMICOG) is the recognized national umbrella body. There is no Islamic university or major madrasah operating in the country, and most advanced religious education is pursued in Senegal, Egypt, or the Gulf. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for the Republic of the Congo, consistent with West African Maliki practice; the Algerian and Egyptian methods are offered as regionally-tested alternates given the source-region of the migrant community.
