Prayer times in Costa Rica

Default method: mwl · Capital: San José · 8 regions indexed

Costa Rica has a small Muslim community estimated at less than 0.1 percent of the population, numbering perhaps 1,500 to 3,000 adherents. The community is composed of Levantine Arab descendants (Palestinian, Lebanese, and Syrian) who migrated in the twentieth century, more recent Pakistani and Iranian residents, and a growing Costa Rican convert population. The Centro Cultural Musulmán de Costa Rica in San José operates the country's principal mosque, the Mezquita de Omar, founded in the 1990s. There is no state Islamic authority, and the community is too small to support a formal Islamic school. The country's strong secular and religiously tolerant constitutional framework has facilitated steady community development. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for Costa Rica, consistent with Central American regional practice; the ISNA method is offered as an alternate given proximity to and educational ties with North American Muslim networks. Most observant families maintain links with Mexican, Panamanian, and Florida-based mosque networks for halal certification, religious education, and Eid coordination.
