Côte d'Ivoire has a Muslim community of approximately 42 to 43 percent of the population per the 2021 census, making Islam the largest single religion in the country, slightly ahead of Christianity. The community is concentrated in the northern savanna regions and in the major southern cities of Abidjan and Bouaké, with origins in centuries-long Mandé (Dyula), Senufo, and Hausa trading networks linked to the trans-Saharan and Sahelian commerce. The community is overwhelmingly Sunni of the Maliki school with a strong Tijaniyya Sufi presence and a smaller Wahhabi/reform-oriented current that emerged from the late twentieth century. The Mosque of the Plateau in Abidjan and the Grand Mosque of Bouaké serve as principal urban congregational centers. The Conseil Supérieur des Imams (COSIM) and the Conseil National Islamique (CNI) are the principal national bodies, with COSIM playing the leading role in interfaith dialogue and national reconciliation since the 2011 post-election crisis. eSalah uses the MWL default for Côte d'Ivoire; the Algerian method is offered as a regionally-tested alternate.
