Honduras has a small Muslim community estimated at less than 0.1 percent of the population, numbering approximately 1,500 to 3,000 adherents. The community is composed primarily of Levantine Arab descendants (predominantly Palestinian, with Lebanese and Syrian components) who migrated in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; the Palestinian-Honduran community in San Pedro Sula is one of the largest Arab diasporas in Central America, though only a portion of it is Muslim, with the majority being Christian. The Centro Islámico de Honduras in San Pedro Sula operates the country's principal mosque, the Mezquita de Hispano Hondureños Musulmanes, opened in 2010. There is no state Islamic authority, and the community is too small to support a formal Islamic school within Honduras. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for Honduras, consistent with Central American regional practice; the ISNA method is offered as an alternate given proximity to and educational ties with North American Muslim networks. The community maintains links with Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Mexican, and Floridian Muslim networks for religious resources and Eid coordination.
