Montserrat has a very small Muslim community estimated at well under 0.5 percent of the population, numbering perhaps a handful of adherents in a British Overseas Territory of approximately 4,400 (substantially reduced from its pre-1995 population due to the Soufrière Hills volcanic activity that destroyed the former capital Plymouth). The community is composed of a small number of resident professionals and Caribbean-origin converts. There is no purpose-built mosque on the island, and Friday prayers when held are conducted in private spaces or through visiting arrangements with Antiguan Muslim community structures. There is no state Islamic authority. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for Montserrat, consistent with broader Caribbean regional practice. The community maintains ongoing ties with the larger Antiguan, Trinidadian, and U.S. Caribbean diaspora Muslim networks for religious resources, and most observant residents conduct major religious life-cycle events in Antigua, Trinidad, or in the New York and Florida Caribbean Muslim communities. The country is included primarily for completeness of the geographic database rather than as a meaningful site of organized Islamic community life.
