Slovenia has a Muslim community of approximately 2.4 to 3 percent of the population, numbering roughly 50,000 to 60,000 people. The community is composed predominantly of Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) who settled during the post-1991 period and during and after the Yugoslav wars, alongside an Albanian Kosovar component, smaller Roma Muslim communities, and recent Middle Eastern and Turkish migrants. The community is overwhelmingly Sunni of the Hanafi school. The Ljubljana Mosque (the Islamic Religious and Cultural Centre of Ljubljana), opened in 2020 after a four-decade-long process of community advocacy and political controversy, is the first purpose-built mosque in Slovenia and one of the most architecturally striking new mosques in Europe, with a 40-meter copper-sheathed dome and minaret designed by the Bevk Perović Arhitekti studio. The Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia (Islamska skupnost v Republiki Sloveniji), with its Mufti's Office in Ljubljana, is the recognized national authority. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for Slovenia; the Diyanet method is offered as an alternate given Bosnian-Ottoman heritage.
