Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) has a small Muslim community estimated at approximately 0.2 to 1 percent of the population, numbering roughly 2,000 to 12,000 adherents (figures vary substantially between Pew and government sources). The community is composed primarily of South Asian (Gujarati and Pakistani) traders who settled during the colonial and post-colonial periods, alongside a smaller East African component and a growing native Swazi convert population. The community is concentrated in Mbabane, Manzini, and Big Bend. The community is predominantly Sunni of the Hanafi and Shafi'i schools, with the Gujarati component including some Bohra and Khoja Ismaili presence. The Manzini Mosque (Jamia Masjid) and the Mbabane Mosque serve as principal congregational centers. The Eswatini Muslim Association (formerly Swaziland Muslim Association) is the principal national umbrella body. There is no state Islamic authority, and the community is too small to support a formal Islamic school within Eswatini. eSalah uses the Muslim World League default for Eswatini. The community maintains ongoing ties with the larger South African Muslim networks for religious resources, education, and major life-cycle events.
